The Herdy Company are a local business from the Lake District, inspired by their Herdwick sheep. They design and create gifts, homeware and accessories that are made to make you smile. All while supporting sustainable rural community projects through the Herdy Fund.
The Herdy character has been a part of my family for many years now. My mother loves sheep so when she found the Herdy products she couldn’t resist and has followed them, collecting a fair amount of their products.
Taking some of these products I wanted to photograph them, independently creating this series to hone my still life skills as well as bring to light the cheerful Herdy character.
My mother loves sheep so much that she has stated a few times that she named me after Shaun the Sheep, though why it is spelt differently I am not sure. Nevertheless my nickname in primary school was ‘Sean’ the Sheep. So in a way Herdy brings a sense of comfort to me. Sheep, a topic that has been a part of my life since birth and has been beautifully represented through the Herdy character.
